2006 Crios de Susana Balbo Syrah 50% Bonarda 50%
The 2006 Syrah-Bonarda contains 50% of each component. It was also aged for nine months in French and American oak and bottled without fining or filtration. Purple-colored, it delivers an alluring nose of baking spice, blueberry, plum, and black raspberry. On the palate it is medium-bodied with loads of spicy dark fruit, a forward personality, good balance, and a pure finish. It too may be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.
The Crios de Susana Balbo label has rapidly become synonymous with great value. Susana Balbo is also widely credited with developing the modern style of Torrontes; hers remains the benchmark.

Anonymous. Brush and dark fruit on the nose. Nice vibrant and dark color. Tastes of blackberries, licourice and spice, with some oak. Nice body and integrated tannins. Something missing on the mid palate, even while it comes back with some length. (88 pts.) - Tasted 4/30/2009.

Aloysius16. This was just about at its peak. Nicely well aged but with decent fruit and a bare seam of rebrighting tannin. Undeniably modern in style but good vino, (90 pts.) - Tasted 4/30/2009.

fillay. Opaque purple-black in the glass. Rich aromas of blackberry and cassis framed by blood and iodine and a little animal fur. On the palate, starts with dark rich fruit - blueberries and blackberries - with hints of allpsice and clove and plenty of loam, but this gives way to a steely structure of clenching acidity and chalky tannins. Finishes long but a little bitter. Definitely gives an impression of being built for the long haul, and is in no hurry to relent any. - Tasted 4/30/2009.

cdunn. Very characteristic of a fine aging Bordeaux. Earthy tobacco and cassis on nose, slow to open up. Lively, even a bit pungent, on the palate. Medium-bodied, forest floor, ripe dark fruit with an edge that was appealing; wonderful persistence through finish. This vino has further development ahead, but was a great pairing with the rib-eye. (91 pts.) - Tasted 4/30/2009.
