2006 Argiolas Costera IGT
The 2006 Costera is the finest of these entry-level bottlings. A massive, generous vino, it literally bursts onto the palate with waves of game, earthiness, mint, spices, herbs and bacon fat notes that swirl around a core of ripe, dark fruit. There is outstanding harmony and balance in the glass, especially at this price point. Costera is 90% Cannonau, 5% Carignano and 5% Bovale Sardo, (all native varieties), that spent roughly 6-8 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2012.
This is a superb set of value-priced vinos from Argiolas, one of Sardinia’s historic properties. I am told that at age 102 Antonio Argiolas still pays a daily visit to the property.

| Henman. Very dark red,not showing any signs of aging yet.Medium nose with dark fruit and meaty hints.Fullbodied on the palate, rather bitter, inky, liquorice, dark fruit with a nice long and sligtly rough finish.Still quite young but this baby threw a lot of sediment in the glass. Not really sure if this will develop into a better vino, but it certainly has many years ahead. | daver852. Wasn’t expecting much from this bottle, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. Dark color, slightly grassy nose, a little alcoholicin the mouth, but with a good bit of fruit and a long, pleasing finish. Simple, everyday vino of decent quality. Don’t think this one will improve with age, so drink up. (85 pts.) - Tasted 5/29/2009. |
