2006 Altocedro Malbec Reserve

2006 Altocedro Malbec Reserve
The purple-colored 2006 Malbec Reserve has an expressive bouquet of cedar, tobacco, allspice, black raspberry, and black cherry. It enters the palate not overly tannicly leading to a ripe, layered, tautvino with a forward personality, some elegance, and a lingering, pure finish. This crowd-pleasing Malbec will drink well for another eight years.

Altocedro is an old vinory facility refurbished in 1999 with the first vintage occurring in 2001. The estate consists of 27 hectares with current production standing at 5000 cases of which 95% is exported. All the vinos are fermented with native yeasts.

2007 Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc bel echo

| *Vine*. Unscrewed and poured. Pale straw hue. Forward aromas of grapefruit, gooseberries, and capsicum. Medium-light body, and not overly tannic on the palate, with flavors of citrus, tropical fruits, green bell pepper, and a nice mineral-laced finish. Well-balanced, with rebrighting acidity. Although some may find the bell pepper flavor to be intense, the fruit is substantial enough to provide a more-than-suitable foil to the notes of green. A nice example of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. 2008 Groom Sauvignon Blanc

| *Vine*. Unscrewed and poured. Pale straw hue. Aromas of stone fruits, citrus, dried grass, and sulfur aromas that linger. Medium-light body. Flavors of under-ripened peach, and bitter lemon zest tinged with canned asparagus. Although only 12.9% alcohol, it does not carry it well and comes off as out of balance, with heat and elevated acidity marring the finish. Possibly flawed, NR. Would place in the 82-84 range. - Tasted 7/28/2009. |
